The home is conceptualised such that it mirrors the personalities and lifestyles of its inhabitants. One of the guiding principles of NR House is sustainability that is reflected in the natural palette and semiprecious and natural stone accents seen through the home. “Our natural material palette is composed of renewable elements like stone, wood, organic fabrics, metal and brass. We juxtaposed these diverse materials to create harmonious interiors that reflect our lifestyle,” shares Reddy. Being our own home, we had the liberty to experiment with it,” he adds. Another sustainable aspect of this home is the terrace that is used for organic vegetation and solar panels that provide electricity.

The outsized vision set to come up on a relatively narrow plot meant the house would need to rise up rather than spread out. That played nicely into the client's need to go dramatic, with Suraj integrating the large-than-life element in the structure itself—one that rose up dramatically, and spread out horizontally through a “series of overlapping volumes. The [horizontal] extensions deliberately give the structure a sense of proportion.” On a street known for its patchwork of singularly designed one-of-a-kind homes, the overlapping volumes don't get lost in the overwhelming luxury on display. It stands tall, quite literally, on its plot, a contemporary jigsaw with variously sized pieces glued into a dramatic, cohesive whole.
